BREATHE SERIES

The frailty of the breath in it's 'in and out movement' can be stalled by a moment in time, it can also be helped by finding sanctuaries in which to breathe. My sanctuaries are found in forests, woods, open fields and by rivers and seas. They create a blanket of calmness around me. My breathing becomes instinctive once more and thoughts move outwards. I begin to stop seeing trees when walking through woods, and start seeing wonderful stripes of dark and light. I don't see the sea but the subtle, continual ebb and flow of wavy interconnecting lines. Fields become a patchwork quilt of beautiful muted tones. Everything becomes organic and abstract. The works are deliberately broken into small squares representing the in and out of the breath and also the feeling of a continuity of movement. Nothing stays still, something is always moving, even if it is just time itself.
